TECHNOLOGY
Chevy Equinox

Looking for an impressive infotainment setup? The Chevy Equinox and the Ford Edge have it! In fact, their systems are quite similar, which means you can easily stay connected to family and friends as you drive. However, only the Equinox can make you feel completely comfortable when your teen is behind the wheel.

Matching Infotainment

On both the Chevy Equinox and the Ford Edge, you’ll find standard compatibility with both Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. These apps allow you to use your phone in more dynamic ways within your vehicle, such as making hands-free phone calls, accessing maps for directions to a new place, or finding the playlists you’ve created.

When you’re ready to set up those playlists, you’ll be able to listen to them through a 6-speaker sound system found on both models. Since you’ll need your phone to stay powered up to keep playing those songs, both vehicles also offer an available wireless charger.

Feel Confident With Your Teen Behind the Wheel

The Chevy Equinox, however, stands alone in its offering of standard Teen Driver technology. This innovative feature will provide some added assurance that your teen driver is carefully handling the vehicle when driving alone or with friends. You’ll be able to set different limits on speed and audio volume and get an in-vehicle report card to ensure these rules are followed.

Unfortunately, the Ford Edge does not offer this type of technology.

SAFETY
Chevy Equinox

Going along with that Teen Driver tech, it’s important to look at overall safety with these two models. Both the Equinox and the Edge feature some great standard safety features, but you’ll also notice a few differences in their individual systems.

Uncovering Each SUV’s Safety Suite

On the Edge, you’ll find the following standard features:

  • BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert
  • Lane-Keeping System
  • Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Auto High-Beam Headlamps
  • Adaptive Cruise Control

The Equinox, on the other hand, has the following:

  • Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Forward Collision Alert
  • Front Pedestrian Braking
  • Following Distance Indicator
  • Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning
  • IntelliBeam®

Despite their similarities, the Chevy Equinox has more standard features than the Ford Edge. Although the Edge makes its Blind Spot Information System standard, the Equinox can still be equipped with this feature via an upgrade.

Excellent Visibility

Speaking of upgrades, the Equinox and the Edge both come standard with a Rear Vision Camera. However, the Equinox offers two available upgrades—either an HD Rear Vision Camera or an HD Surround Vision one—while the Edge only has one available rear camera upgrade.

EFFICIENCY
Chevy Equinox

With a larger vehicle like an SUV, you may wonder just how efficiently it will use fuel. Busy lifestyles and trips back and forth to school and practice mean you may want something that lessens stops at the pump.

Fuel Conservation

Luckily, the Chevy Equinox can deliver. Its front-wheel drive models have the potential to travel up to an EPA-estimated 26 city/31 highway MPG. If you choose an all-wheel drive (AWD) engine, you’ll still be able to go an EPA-estimated 24 city/30 highway MPG.

Fewer Fill-ups

The Ford Edge’s fuel economy produces slightly lower numbers, with its base engine offering up to an EPA-estimated 21 city/28 highway MPG on trims with AWD. With that being said, the Equinox’s greater gas mileage will keep you away from the pump longer.
