Museum of Miniatures
The art of building miniatures is a task that requires a fine attention to detail and can take years of practice. To celebrate the work that goes into creating miniature houses, the Museum of Miniatures is proud to showcase some of the incredible talent that Indiana artists possess.
Want to get in close and see what the Museum of Miniatures has waiting for you? Let us give you a taste of what they offer today!
The History of the Museum of Miniatures
Miniatures are more than just toys; they are highly detailed works of art that seek to be exact replicas of full-size furniture and houses.
To create each piece, a lot of subtle work needs to be done to make sure every piece is properly scaled, carved, and painted. You’ll find everything, from miniature versions of furniture and vehicles to full miniature houses—each brought to life in intricate detail.
The Museum of Miniatures was created by three Indiana artists who wanted to preserve the history of miniatures as works of art. One of their major goals was to show architecture and artistic detail to children.
There are a wide number of permanent and special exhibits available in the Museum of Miniatures.
One of the most popular sights is The Wooten Desk, known as the “King of Desks.” This desk features several small storage spaces that have been carefully carved out. The desk is complete with painstakingly detailed painting with some details being smaller than a dime.
