Lucas Oil Raceway: History
The idea to create the Lucas Oil Raceway began in 1958 when 15 Indianapolis businessmen agreed to invest in the creation of a new racetrack. The original idea was to create a 15-turn track that ran for 2.5 miles. That track quickly became known for its drag racing potential, though, thanks to its quarter-mile straightaway that could easily be converted into a drag strip.
Since its construction, this raceway has been hosting some of the most exciting races in Indianapolis since 1960. With an oval course and a drag course available, a diverse racing schedule is available to many different racing enthusiasts.
