Rich Local History

The founding of the Haan Museum of Indiana Art began at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair, when it was built as the Connecticut State Building. This building was eventually moved to Lafayette, Indiana, where it has remained ever since.

The building was used as a residence for years, until Bob and Ellie Haan acquired the mansion in 1984. After years of being used as a home, it was eventually converted into a museum in 2013. Today, it exhibits local art inside a historic and beautifully restored building, where you can enjoy some of the incredible history of the Indiana area.

One of the first things you’ll notice when you set foot on the property of the Haan Museum of Indiana Art is its beauty. The property of the mansion offers a scenic sculpture garden and various hiking paths and bike trails.
