For ultimate capability, there’s the available Duramax® 3.0L Turbo-Diesel engine. This is where you’ll get 305 horsepower, 495 lb-ft of torque, and the maximum 13,300-pound towing capability when properly equipped.
The Ram 1500 engine lineup isn’t anything to scoff at. Its standard motor—a 3.6L Pentastar® V6 engine—makes 305 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. Here’s how the towing capacities measure up in these models’ standard engines:
- 2.7L Turbo High-Output (Silverado 1500): 9,500 pounds
- 3.6L Pentastar® V6 (Ram 1500): 7,730 pounds
If you want more muscle for towing or highway driving, the Chevy may be better for you.
We know these models have a lot of power and large cargo capacities. However, that’s just the start of what they can do. The Chevy Silverado 1500 and the Ram 1500 come with exterior features that make working with your truck easier.
For starters, both models can be equipped with a CornerStep rear bumper to make getting into or looking into the bed easier.

Both trucks have available Multi-Flex Tailgates designed to facilitate loading and unloading the truck bed. Although the Ram’s multifunction tailgate is built with swing-away doors, it lacks a few additional functions that the Silverado’s can do. For example, the Silverado’s tailgate can be configured in six different ways!
When it comes to the Chevy Silverado vs. Ram 1500, it’s clear that both trucks are impressive. However, the Chevy has a higher towing capacity and more features overall.
