Chevy Colorado vs Toyota Tacoma
CHEVY COLORADO VS TOYOTA TACOMA
The 2019 Chevy Colorado and the Toyota Tacoma are both comfortable midsize trucks, ready for your next road trip. However, which packs in more muscle and versatility for Indianapolis, Fishers, and Speedway drivers? Andy Mohr Speedway Chevrolet pitted the Colorado vs. the Tacoma to determine which comes out on top in the categories that matter most to local drivers. Read on to see for yourself!
CHEVY COLORADO VS TOYOTA TACOMA: PERFORMANCE SPECS
No matter what size truck you buy, you’re going to expect that it comes with a little extra muscle underneath the hood. The Toyota Tacoma offers two different engine options: a 4-cylinder and a V6. However, even when equipped with its most powerful engine, the output maxes out at 278 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. This is certainly a good amount of power. However, the Chevy Colorado takes things just a little bit farther. It offers three different engines, including one high-torque diesel option. However, its comparable V6 option is noticeably more powerful than the competitor’s. On average, this standard engine produces 308 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. If it’s sheer power that you’re looking for in your pickup, then you may just have to turn to the Chevy Colorado.
TOWING & PAYLOAD
What kind of hauls do you have in mind for your truck? Are you towing a boat or a camper? Maybe you just need to pack the bed full of work equipment? In either case, you need a high towing capacity and an equally high payload. So, let’s say you’re sticking with the V6 setup for both trucks. In the case of the Chevy Colorado, it’s enough horsepower and torque that you’re able to haul as much as 7,000 pounds of cargo (of course, this is amped up to 7,600 pounds if you choose the diesel outfit.) The 2019 Colorado also has a payload of 1,548 pounds, so overall cargo capabilities land pretty high. The Toyota Tacoma comes close in both respects but ends up falling a short. With its V6, it can only haul up to 6,400 pounds, and its payload peaks at 1,175 pounds.
COLORADO & TACOMA SAFETY FEATURES
During those long hauls, a bit of added safety is necessary to keep you and any passengers safe, particularly when the roads get rough. Stability and traction controls are standard in both vehicles, as is the rearview camera. The former helps improve wheel grip and handling, while the latter is helpful for pulling in and out of tight spots. However, the Colorado adds in features you won’t find in the Tacoma. It comes standard with OnStar® automatic crash response. This includes roadside assistance and crisis response, so someone is always with you, even in the most stressful of times.
THE RIGHT TRUCK FOR ADVENTURE
When it comes time for a hard haul, you can always count on the Chevy Colorado to get you through. The Toyota Tacoma, on the other hand, may leave you wanting a bit more.
